Rep. Kim Schrier, M.D., a U.S. Congress member representing Washington’s 8th district since 2019, has recently shared her perspectives and activities through a series of tweets. Schrier, who has lived with type 1 diabetes for four decades, highlighted her efforts in legislative advocacy and community engagement.
On June 21, 2025, Rep. Schrier expressed the significance of education in managing type 1 diabetes. She stated: “As someone who has lived with type 1 diabetes for 40 years, I know firsthand the importance of education in navigating this disease.” She emphasized the role of self-management training in enabling people with diabetes to lead healthy lives and announced her introduction of a bipartisan bill aimed at increasing access to such training.
Later that day, Schrier tweeted about her visit to the Sno-Valley Senior Center where she discussed affordable housing and support for family caregivers. She remarked: “It was great to tour the Sno-Valley Senior Center this week to speak with staff about how to increase access to affordable housing and support family caregivers.” She acknowledged the center’s role in uplifting communities by providing essential resources like food and housing.
On June 22, 2025, Rep. Schrier commented on President Trump’s decision-making process regarding Iran. She criticized the lack of consultation with Congress before making significant decisions, stating: “President Trump’s unilateral decision, made without proper consultation with Congress, will have widespread consequences that we cannot predict.” Schrier stressed Iran’s status as a major sponsor of terrorism and underscored the importance of preventing it from acquiring nuclear weapons.
Kim Schrier was born in Los Angeles in 1968 and currently resides in Sammamish. She graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science degree.
