Rep. Kim Schrier, M.D., who represents Washington’s 8th district in the U.S. Congress, recently used her social media platform to voice concerns over proposed federal funding and staffing cuts affecting scientific research and public lands.

On July 31, 2025, Schrier posted about planned reductions to the National Institutes of Health budget under the Trump Administration. She wrote, “The Trump Administration plans to slash NIH funding by 40%. This is despicable.

NIH is the reason that new medications and cures are discovered by Americans, and is one of the best investments our country makes. These cuts will devastate research centers like @fredhutch who are https://t.co/zwQpsAsE2I“.

The following day, August 1, 2025, Schrier addressed conditions at The Enchantments—a popular wilderness area in her district—citing impacts from administrative decisions: “The Enchantments are a cherished part of the Eighth District, visited by constituents and visitors from around the world. Due to the Trump Administration’s senseless staffing cuts, conditions at the Enchantments have become dire.

That’s why I’m leading a letter calling on the”.

On August 2, she also shared an update with constituents: “Here is this week’s Schrier Flyer! https://t.co/xMIfc7RNMu”.

Schrier has represented Washington’s 8th District since 2019 after succeeding Dave Reichert. Born in Los Angeles in 1968 and currently residing in Sammamish, she holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California, Berkeley (1991).
