Rep. Kim Schrier, M.D., a member of Congress representing Washington’s 8th district, posted a series of statements on July 22, 2025, addressing the importance of physician researchers and raising concerns about proposed Republican healthcare budget cuts.
In her first post, Schrier emphasized the role of medical research in patient care: “Physician researchers play a key role in improving patient care and outcomes. To support their work and strengthen medical research, I introduced the bipartisan Access to Claims Data Act, which will provide physician researchers with the data that they need.” (July 22, 2025)
Later that day, Schrier criticized the Republican budget proposal: “The Republican budget will decimate our healthcare system here in Washington. Hundreds of thousands of Washingtonians will lose their health care, and rural hospitals will be forced to close down – all just to give billionaires a big tax cut.” (July 22, 2025)
She also reported on her participation at a professional conference: “I recently spoke at the Alliance of Specialty Medicine’s Advocacy Conference to talk with physicians about how Republican cuts to healthcare will harm hospitals, patients, and doctors. I will continue to fight to protect healthcare access for my constituents and everyday” (July 22, 2025)
Schrier has represented Washington’s 8th District since 2019 after succeeding Dave Reichert. She was born in Los Angeles in 1968 and currently resides in Sammamish. Schrier holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California, Berkeley.
