U.S. Representative Kim Schrier, M.D., who represents Washington’s 8th district in Congress, recently used her social media platform to highlight local environmental restoration efforts, criticize proposed federal budget cuts affecting food assistance programs, and commemorate the anniversary of the Voting Rights Act.
On August 5, 2025, Schrier shared her experience with local Forest Service rangers: “I was thrilled to join local @ForestService rangers on a hike to hear about their restoration work to Lake 22 and the Big Four Ice Caves Trail, and how possible budget cuts have impacted their efforts.” She noted concerns about how potential reductions in funding could affect ongoing conservation projects.
Later that day, Schrier addressed proposed legislative changes she described as harmful to community welfare. On August 5, she posted: “Trump’s Big Ugly Bill slashes funding for critical food assistance programs. These cuts impact members of our community who rely on these benefits to afford groceries, our farmers who supply the produce, and local grocers like Chelan Market.”
Marking a significant historical milestone on August 6, Schrier wrote: “60 years ago, the Voting Rights Act of 1965 was signed into law. Our work to defend voting rights for all Americans is far from over.”
Schrier has represented Washington’s 8th District since replacing Dave Reichert in 2019. Born in Los Angeles in 1968 and currently residing in Sammamish, she holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California, Berkeley (1991).
