Rep. Kim Schrier, M.D., a member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 8th district since 2019, recently shared updates on her official Twitter account about her engagement with medical research and her office’s summer internship program.
On August 7, 2025, Schrier posted about her visit to Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center: “ICYMI: I met with researchers and physicians at @fredhutch to learn how their work is saving lives across the Eighth District, Washington State, and the country. I will keep working to help preserve vital federal funding that will bolster medical research and access to”.
The following day, August 8, she acknowledged the contributions of two interns in her district office: “It has been so wonderful to have Elizabeth and Ramsey as interns in our District office this summer. They are both dedicated public servants and it has been a joy to have them with us. I’m excited to see where they go next! https://t.co/oHU2pCX5aD”.
Later on August 8, Schrier commented on recent developments regarding federal research funding: “RFK Jr. canceled $500M in funding for critical research projects that are creating new mRNA vaccines to protect us from infectious diseases in the future. That future could be just around the corner, in the form of bird flu. Hoping and praying that diseases like a novel”.
Schrier, who was born in Los Angeles in 1968 and now resides in Sammamish, holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California, Berkeley (1991). She succeeded Dave Reichert as representative for Washington’s 8th district in 2019.
