Rep. Kim Schrier, M.D., a member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 8th district since 2019, shared updates on local traditions, infrastructure developments, and healthcare policy through her official Twitter account on January 11, 2026.

In a post from that day, Schrier highlighted a longstanding bipartisan custom among the Washington delegation: “Had a great time joining my Washington delegation colleagues in passing off the “Chick Pic” to Congresswoman Emily Randall. In this decades-long, bipartisan tradition, the newest member of the delegation proudly displays this painting in their office!” (January 11, 2026).

Later that afternoon, she informed constituents about transportation updates affecting Highway 2: “Important news: Highway 2 is fully reopening east of Steven’s Pass to Coles Corner. The detour to Chumstick Highway will continue due to washouts in Tumwater Canyon.” (January 11, 2026).

That evening, Schrier addressed concerns over health insurance practices related to Medicare Advantage programs: “Health insurance companies are abusing prior authorizations, resulting in care being delayed and denied – especially when it comes to Medicare Advantage. I’m working in Congress on legislation to increase transparency in Medicare Advantage programs and stop the use of AI in” (January 11, 2026).

Schrier has served as the representative for Washington’s 8th district since succeeding Dave Reichert in 2019. She was born in Los Angeles in 1968 and currently resides in Sammamish. Schrier earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California, Berkeley in 1991.
