Rep. Kim Schrier, M.D., U.S. Representative for Washington’s 8th congressional district, addressed several key legislative and policy issues in a series of posts on her official Twitter account.
On April 29, 2026, Schrier expressed concern over the effects of artificial intelligence on her constituents, writing: “The impacts of AI are a big concern for my constituents. They are worried about what AI growth means for their jobs, privacy, and energy prices. AI companies shouldn’t be forcing constituents like mine to foot the bill for their energy use. I’ll keep fighting to make these”. In recent years, advances in artificial intelligence have raised questions about workforce displacement, data privacy, and increased energy demands associated with large-scale computing systems.
The following day, on April 30, Schrier commented on agricultural policy after a House vote: “My statement after voting to pass today’s Farm Bill: https://t.co/QXxtBGCSuQ https://t.co/C6uMkE5Jks”. The Farm Bill is reauthorized every five years by Congress and provides funding and guidelines for nutrition assistance programs, crop insurance, commodity subsidies, conservation efforts, and rural development initiatives.
Later that day, Schrier addressed recent appropriations developments in Congress regarding the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), stating: “Republicans finally did what they should have done a month ago: Join Democrats to fund all DHS agencies except ICE and CBP. This move will help us pay the hardworking Americans employed by law-abiding agencies like TSA, the Coast Guard, and FEMA, who keep Americans safe.”.
These statements reflect ongoing debates in Congress about technology regulation, agriculture policy through the Farm Bill process, and federal agency funding priorities.
