Rep. Kim Schrier, M.D., a member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 8th district, has been vocal on social media about her concerns regarding healthcare policies and their impact on rural communities and individuals with diabetes. Her recent tweets emphasize the potential consequences of proposed Medicaid cuts and the importance of affordable insulin.
On May 14, 2025, Rep. Schrier highlighted the critical role of rural hospitals in saving lives by sharing a story from her district: “Rural hospitals save lives like Ayla’s, a 4-year-old in my district whose story is a testament to the importance of rural healthcare.” She warned that if Republicans proceed with cutting Medicaid, it could result in the closure of these vital institutions, affecting millions.
Later that day, she addressed the issue of insulin costs: “If my Republican colleagues really wanted to improve health care, they would have supported my amendment to cap the cost of insulin at $35 per month.” As someone living with type-1 diabetes herself, Schrier expressed concern over how rising insulin prices have made this essential medication inaccessible for many.
In another tweet posted on May 14, 2025, Schrier detailed her ongoing efforts against Medicaid cuts: “We’re 23 hours in and still going strong, standing up to the Republican efforts to gut Medicaid and take health insurance away from 13.7 million Americans.” She emphasized that such cuts would be particularly harmful to her constituents in Washington’s Eighth District.
Kim Schrier has served in Congress since replacing Dave Reichert in 2019. Born in Los Angeles in 1968 and currently residing in Sammamish, she graduated from UC Berkeley with a BS degree in 1991.
