Rep. Kim Schrier, M.D., a U.S. Representative from Washington’s 8th congressional district, recently posted several updates on her social media account addressing community engagement, an art competition for students, and national policy concerns.
On April 9, 2026, Schrier reminded high school students about the ongoing Congressional Art Competition: “A reminder to local high school students that my office is currently accepting submissions for the 2026 Congressional Art Competition! The winning artwork of our district’s competition will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol. The deadline to apply is April 17:”.
The following day, Schrier shared her experience volunteering at a local library: “I volunteered at the Orting Pierce County Library this week reading stories to kiddos and learning more about their great community programming. Thanks for having me!” (April 10, 2026).
Later on April 10, Schrier commented on former President Donald Trump’s stated budget priorities: “President Trump has stated that he’d rather use your tax dollars to fund foreign wars than help your family afford health care and child care. This is ridiculous. Washingtonians and all Americans deserve better.”
The Congressional Art Competition is an annual event that encourages artistic talent among high school students nationwide by displaying winning entries in the U.S. Capitol for one year. Community outreach activities like volunteering at public libraries are part of many representatives’ efforts to stay connected with constituents and support local initiatives.
Schrier’s comments regarding federal spending reflect ongoing debates in Congress over allocation of taxpayer funds between domestic programs such as health care and international commitments.
