Rep. Kim Schrier, M.D., who represents Washington’s 8th district in the U.S. Congress, used her social media platform to highlight concerns about healthcare legislation and commemorate Women’s Equality Day in a series of posts this week.
On August 26, Schrier addressed rising health insurance costs at a local medical center. She stated, “Today, I brought together patients, providers, and advocates at @harborviewmc to sound the alarm on how Republicans’ Big Ugly Bill will cause health insurance costs to skyrocket for hundreds of thousands of Washingtonians. As a doctor, I know firsthand the impact that losing https://t.co/PSyU7XCg8w”.
The following day, Schrier marked Women’s Equality Day by reflecting on the history of women’s suffrage in the United States. In her post dated August 27, she wrote, “105 years ago, the 19th Amendment was ratified, granting women in this country the right to vote. On Women’s Equality Day, we honor the brave women who fought for this historic change and continue the fight for equality for women in every area of life. https://t.co/jC28kP63IS”.
Later that same day, Schrier criticized Congressional Republicans over proposed changes to Medicaid and healthcare tax credits: “Republicans in Congress have not only cut Medicaid for millions of Americans, but are allowing critical healthcare tax credits to expire, which will cause insurance costs to skyrocket for working families – all so they can give tax breaks to billionaires. This is just plain https://t.co/oFNXyBhSYG”.
Schrier has represented Washington’s 8th District since 2019 after succeeding Dave Reichert. She was born in Los Angeles in 1968 and currently resides in Sammamish. Schrier earned her undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley in 1991.
