Rep. Kim Schrier, M.D., a U.S. Representative for Washington’s 8th Congressional District, recently shared updates on her official Twitter account regarding her engagement with local education and agricultural initiatives.
On April 4, 2026, Schrier posted about her visit to Mount Si High School alongside Superintendent Dan Schlotfeldt. She wrote, “I visited Mount Si High School this week with Superintendent Dan Schlotfeldt to meet with their fantastic students and teachers about new school programming and resources for kids.”
The following day, on April 5, 2026, she extended holiday greetings to her constituents in Washington’s Eighth District by posting, “Wishing all those who celebrate in #WA08 a happy Easter!”
Later the same day, Schrier addressed federal support for local agriculture through key grant programs. She stated, “The Specialty Crop Research Initiative and Specialty Crop Block Grant Program provide essential support for orchardists and growers across Washington. I’ve proudly gone to bat for these programs and will continue to work in Congress to support producers in the Eighth District.”
Washington’s Eighth Congressional District includes diverse agricultural regions that benefit from federal programs supporting specialty crops such as apples and cherries. The Specialty Crop Research Initiative (SCRI) funds research aimed at addressing challenges faced by fruit and vegetable growers nationwide. The Specialty Crop Block Grant Program (SCBGP) offers grants to enhance the competitiveness of specialty crops through research, marketing, and food safety projects.
Schrier has previously advocated for increased resources for both educational institutions and agricultural producers within her district.
