Rep. Kim Schrier, M.D., a current member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 8th district since 2019, shared her perspectives on recent legislative matters and public safety through social media posts dated July 2, 2025.
On the morning of July 2, Schrier expressed her opposition to what she referred to as the “Republicans’ Big Ugly Bill.” She emphasized her stance by stating that she landed back in Washington D.C. specifically to vote against this bill. According to Schrier, the proposed legislation would “gut healthcare, rip food assistance away, and raise costs for millions,” and is detrimental to all Americans, including those in Republican districts. She committed to holding her Republican colleagues accountable for this legislation (“I landed back in DC this morning…”).
Later that day, Schrier elaborated on the potential consequences of the same bill. She highlighted that it would “kick 17 million Americans off their healthcare,” force rural hospitals to close down, and remove care from seniors. Reaffirming her position against the bill, she vowed to continue fighting for healthcare access for all Americans (“The Republicans’ Big Ugly Bill will:”).
In another post made on National Wildland Firefighter Day, Schrier acknowledged the critical role of wildland firefighters in protecting communities from wildfires. Drawing from experiences within Washington State where wildfire destruction has been witnessed firsthand, she honored their service and bravery (“Here in Washington State…”).
As an experienced legislator who replaced Dave Reichert in Congress in 2019 and holds a degree from the University of California, Berkeley, Kim Schrier continues to actively engage with legislative issues affecting her constituents.
