Rep. Kim Schrier, M.D., representing Washington’s 8th District, took to social media on April 2, 2025, to express her concerns about recent developments affecting health services in the Pacific Northwest. Schrier, who replaced former U.S. Congress member Dave Reichert in 2019 and currently resides in Sammamish, has served in Congress since 2019.

In her first post, Schrier highlighted regional collaboration efforts, stating, “This is a big deal – the regional office worked with health organizations, academic institutions, and governments throughout the Pacific Northwest to address health emergencies, provide care to those in need, and strengthen our overall public health.”

Schrier then addressed the impact of administrative decisions, noting, “President Trump’s decision to take a chainsaw to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has forced the Seattle regional HHS office to close down and will have massive repercussions in our community.” This post was also shared on April 2, 2025.

Finally, Schrier described the immediate consequences of these changes, posting, “Today, employees from our region’s Head Start Office have been locked out of the building. Now, the children who benefit so much from it may no longer have the support they need.” The community impact of these developments remains a significant concern for Schrier.
