Rep. Kim Schrier, M.D., a member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 8th District, has recently expressed her concerns through a series of tweets regarding funding cuts implemented by the current administration and their impact on essential community services. Since taking office in 2019, Schrier has been an advocate for resources critical to her constituents.

On July 8, 2025, Rep. Schrier criticized the administration’s funding reductions stating that “This Administration’s reckless funding cuts have decimated essential resources and services in the Eighth District, like food banks, child care programs, and wildfire response efforts.” She emphasized that these measures do not enhance government efficiency but rather harm local communities.

In a subsequent tweet on July 9, 2025, Schrier shared her interactions with staff at Food Lifeline regarding budget cuts to SNAP benefits. She highlighted that “Republicans’ massive cuts to SNAP will directly harm families here in Washington, including 150,000 households with children.” Schrier reiterated her commitment to supporting constituents reliant on these vital resources.

Further addressing fiscal policies on July 10, 2025, Rep. Schrier labeled the Republican budget bill as a betrayal to hardworking families within her district. She argued that “Their bill is the largest Medicaid cut in history, leaves kids and seniors to go hungry,” criticizing it for favoring tax breaks for billionaires at the expense of national financial stability.

Kim Schrier was born in Los Angeles in 1968 and currently resides in Sammamish. She graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1991.
