The Association of Washington Cities (AWC) recently bestowed the Advanced Certificate of Municipal Leadership award to Wenatchee City Council member Linda Herald, according to a Wenatchee City news release.
Wenatchee City's Certificate of Municipal Leadership program recognizes elected officials for accomplishing training in four core areas including: roles, responsibilities and legal requirements; public sector resource management; community planning and development; and effective local leadership.
“Cities and towns around the state are continually transforming in light of changing laws and the need to meet new challenges and opportunities,” AWC Chief Executive Officer Peter King said in the news release. “Our Advanced Certificate of Municipal Leadership recognizes mayors and council members who continue to enhance the tools they need today to understand the legal landscape, plan for the future, manage their resources, and foster strong relationships. The elected officials who earn this certificate demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and a desire to bring new ideas back to their community.”
The advanced certificate is awarded to those who continue to strive for excellence by attending conferences and trainings, serving their community and further developing leadership skills. Council member Herald completed more than 60 hours of training credits and demonstrated community service to earn the award.
Herald has been a member of the Wenatchee City Council since 2012, according to the news release. She has served her community in a number of capacities as Former President of the Wenatchee Central Lions, Board member of the Washington State Apple Blossom Festival, Board member of the Wenatchee Applarians, member of the round table at the Washington Executive Society, former board member and associate member of the year, serves on the Education Committee for the Association of Washington Cities, the Community Action Council, the Misawa Sister City Association and on the Homeless Steering Committee.
