Wenatchee is in need of infill housing and is looking for ways to expand, Wenatchee World reported.
Planning Manager Stephen Neuenschwander told the news media it was going to be a critical issue over the next 20 years.
Neuenschwander said the city implemented a housing code that allowed for more diversity last year and would now make building smaller townhouses and courtyard-style units available.
“That kind of paved the way for some of these smaller infill projects like cottages and townhomes,” Neuenschwander said, the news media reported. “It’s hard to tell what would have happened in 2020 with COVID having an effect on permitting, but hopefully we’ll continue to see more projects like these."
Neuenschwander told the news media that the city has many orchard-style properties it wants to use to provide infill opportunity but the properties may be a bit too narrow.
Neuenschwander said they wanted to units to each have open space.
