Melania Trump’s long-time confidante and chief of staff, Stephanie Grisham has resigned after President Donald Trump's loyalists violently showed their support to him in an election count protest on Wednesday.
Grisham’s resignation is effective immediately.
This is not the first time the Eastmont High School alumna has considered leaving her post; she has also planned to live closer to her family in the Midwest, according to a news report.
Prior to becoming the first lady’s chief of staff, Grisham served as Donald Trump’s press aide during his presidential campaign and had transitioned to be a deputy press secretary under Sean Spicer.
In early 2017, Grisham was hired by Melania Trump and has worked with her until she submitted her resignation on Wednesday. She has been one of the longest-serving officials of the Trump administration.
The Capitol violent incident has made several more White House officials contemplate leaving their posts, according to news reports.
“It has been an honor to serve the country in the White House. I am very proud to have been a part of Mrs. Trump’s mission to help children everywhere, and proud of the many accomplishments of this administration,” Grisham said in a statement.
